Whakarākai is a survey exhibition showcasing works by a selection of outstanding artists from around New Zealand who are interested in Māori adornment and raranga (weaving) traditions. Over thirty works have been chosen for the exhibition, encompassing a wide range of disciplines, from customary practices through to contemporary object art, photography, printmaking and textile design. Throughout the exhibition, Whakarākai is being complemented by free daily harakeke and korowai weaving workshops onsite led by local makers. Whakarākai is curated by Matt Blomeley and features as part of Matariki Festival 2014.
